Location Global Scope
Scope Conservation finance strategies to support 225M+ hectares conserved & 300 Mt CO₂ per year sequestered
Organisations The Nature Conservancy

THE PLACE

The Nature Conservancy is one of the world’s largest conservation organisations, working across continents to protect the lands and waters on which all life depends. Its Durable Protection Strategies team develops and deploys large-scale conservation finance tools that help safeguard important regions and sequester carbon at a global scale.

THE CHALLENGE

To deliver at scale, the Durable Protection Strategies team needed a clear strategic plan that aligned its departmental objectives with the organisation’s global 2030 conservation goals. The challenge was to define operational roles, governance pathways, and deployment strategies for a complex set of conservation finance tools.

OUR APPROACH

GCS facilitated the development of a strategic plan for The Nature Conservancy’s Durable Protection Strategies team, ensuring clear alignment between the team’s objectives and the organisation’s global 2030 conservation goals.

Through a responsive, professionally facilitated process, we defined operational roles, governance pathways, and deployment strategies for conservation finance tools that collectively supports the protection of more than 225 million hectares of land and water, and sequesters 300 megatons of CO₂ each year. Alongside the planning work, we supported team building and a stronger sense of belonging.

RESULTS & IMPACT

A strategic plan aligning the team’s ambitions with TNC’s global 2030 conservation goals

Clearly defined operational roles and governance pathways for global impact

Deployment of Project Finance for Permanence (PFP) strategies to conserve 225M+ hectares and keep 300 Mt CO₂ per year stored

A stronger, aligned team with a greater sense of belonging alongside the planning outcomes

“We hired GCS to help us with our team’s strategic plan. They showed great professionalism and knowledge about the strategic planning process and were a lot of fun to work with. Our facilitator was very responsive to our requests and contributed not only to the planning work but also to the building of our team and sense of belonging. I would confidently recommend GCS to conduct any strategic planning process in collaboration with teams.”
